We haven't done this in a while.

You know you're in Maine when someone calls about real estate tax and the call takes an unexpected turn.

Her: Do you still sell vegetables?

Me: Yes, and (*** *** ***)

Her: Are there people who need more than you give away?

Me: Yes, and (gab gab gab)

Her: I'm going to send a separate check with my taxes. Will you use it as you think it's best and make sure everyone has enough?

The amount she's sending will keep one person in fresh vegetables for a year. Maine is full of good people.

When Elcarim called to get the bus to stop at her lane for her girls the guy at the bus office said "Oh those are the two little girls who have been on the bus with Jake!" (my ten year old) Mind you, this isn't even the same bus run with the same driver, but the guy in the office knew. El said "I love living in a small town!"

When you enter the state on I-95 and there isn't one, but SIX signs welcoming you to Maine (and one to remind you of their drunk driving laws.... And one about plants on your boat).

No flipping billboards! Most other places you go the roadside is littered with them, it is refreshing to drive down any road and not be assaulted by huge ugly billboards. I really love the ones that advertise for strip club/adult toy stores, and have the 6 year old want to go to the toy store.

I got asked that by a customer at work last month. I told him "not bad, pipes only froze once, and we got 'em thawed the next day."

He laughed, said something about how much a Maine response that was...
