Could I please get some opinions on the differences of living in the Houlton region of the county or the Presque Isle/Caribou region, likes and dislikes, etc.? Also, the same for the Lincoln area? Thanks!

I'm partial to the Lincoln area. Lincoln has 7 banks and a credit union, a good hospital, 13 lakes and the Penobscot River. They have a very good snowmobile and ATV trail system. Lincoln is the economic center of the region. Welcome to Lincoln, Maine!

Houlton and Presque Isle have better snowmobile trails, but the job market is more limited.

I Like the Lincoln area as well. The hospital is good. Shopping is decent and people are welcoming. You can get a good sized property and still be close to town.

Have to agree with Lincoln area over the County, even though I lived in the PI/Caribou area for 20 years and still have family there. For all the reasons listed above, plus it is closer to Bangor if you are coming from a more populated area, it is nice to be closer to the "big" city of 35,000.

Sounds so nice, I saw on the front page a photo of santa...
these were taken of my DH in Nov. his beard is about 3 inches longer now, he went gray in his 30's, lots of times while we are out kids will look at him, but raising 3 kids he will not talk to a child unless a parent is there and gives permission. We live on our boat...

Santa and his daughters
His beard now is much longer, my mountain man

Santa sleeping, my bear

This last statement totally depends on the job you are looking for. There are a few more mill jobs in Lincoln, but other than that..................clue me in. The Caribou/PI area has a pretty diverse economy. And God forbid the Lincoln mill ever goes under again. It's a one horse town.

Caribou and Presque Isle are bigger than Lincoln. About 17,000 people within a 15 mile radius. Lincoln has 5,000 people.
Edmunston/Madawaska has 25,000 people, only 45 minutes from Caribou.

The mill uses wood chip and sawdust byproducts from the lumber industry which is much bigger than the mill. Once a town reaches a certain size it becomes self sustaining. Old mill towns dependent on a single mill are very vulnerable. Lincoln is not like that. When the mill went down for a year and a half, nearly all the employees found other work.

I worked in Canada. The Edmuston area has a larger economy, but they also have a 15% sales tax called the GST. One significant factor for Lincoln is that it is only 45 minutes from EMMC. Caribou is three hours from EMMC on a good day.

We recently moved to the Lincoln area. There's a good hospital, good medical care, decent shopping, and services, banking,........ most everything we need. Nothing against the P/I-Caribou area but, we're very glad to be here.

Nothing against the Lincoln area, but I would have to be pretty desperate to live there. Too small. The only thing it has going for it is that it's closer to EMMC, but how many times do I need to be rushed there? None, so far.
Plus, I hate to say it, but they don't call it "stinkin' Lincoln" for nothing!.....

EMMC and my DH's cardiologist in Bangor are a consideration in our case. We're just over a 1/2 hour out of Lincoln and we like "small" so, I guess for us it's a good fit.
