Hello all!

My wife and I are moving to maine soon from northern Minnesota, Wiscasset to be precise and we are big net geeks. I host a game server than requires a lot of bandwidth and google searches did not prove to be very helpful in finding a good company for stable high speed internet. Can anyone point us in the right direction?

At most we could pay up to 120 a month for internet, but that might be pushing it unless the line had a really good upload rate.

I am not familiar with local companies so if there is no high speed available I'll understand but that's why I'm asking.

THANKS!

(we are new to the forum as well so if this is posted in the wrong area sorry! I found this as a quick google search as well)

What is available will depend very much on WHERE you settle. There are large areas of the state where what you will need is just plain not available.

I work as a graphic designer and my SO is a gamer and so access was a big issue for us. We were looking at the area north and east of Bangor, wanting to settle somewhere other than "right smack dab in town" even if the town was a tiny one.

I ended up having to call the town hall in each of the towns in our target area and asking for info. Most did not have email addresses, even! I found the secretaries and other folks in the town offices helpful, even if I did have to some times read between the lines... as when I was told the town had "great high speed dial up service!" (no kidding...)

In the more highly populated southern part of the state and the cental to southern coast, it will be less of an issue. Ditto if you settle in Bangor, proper... likely other larger towns as well. I found that many of the smaller towns in my target area DID have Time-Warner (which is who we used for service in NC) but it was necessary to run each potential address past the T-W folks for confirmation of service, as not all streets in all the towns were covered.

I hope this helps.
