How would a .243 with 65 grain varmint bullet be on a coyote? One shot would be enough if it's hit correctly?

I use a .223 with a Sierra 55 Grain SX. Actually, a .22 LR will do the job if placed well.

Good. Thanks! I've used the .22 and I'm confident with it but the firing pin is off. I need to take it to Partridge Meadow and have it repaired.

Two locals out on the island got two of them last night. We are overrun with them out there. They've moved down into the village now, that's not good. We watched them early morning all summer long on the island across from us. They'd hide behind some big boulders in a clearing waiting for the deer to come out of the woods and into the clearing, then the chase ensued. The deer are usually pretty fast, but occasionally we'd see a weaker one not make it. It's not a pretty site.

I sold Partridge Meadow to them. They have no problem with owning a graveyard, not even on Halloween. Sold the 85 acres across the road too. While listing that one I found a pager about a half mile out in the woods. I put in a new battery and it woke up. I called Texas and asked if they were missing any customers and that I had found their pager way out in the woods in Maine. They got all excited about it. I sent the pager back. I never did find out if the owner was missing, a fugitive from justice or some other mystery was involved. There's a Halloween mystery for you.

Thanks for mentioning the coyote situation over in Harpswell, mermaid. A Harpswell local mentioned some nice walking paths/hikes in the area to take for photography opportunities, but with this news, I think I'll stay to the less remote locations. Just not worth the chance.

The .243 will work just fine. I have shot them with a .223 and that worked well too. A 30-06 is a bit much but it ain't like you're going to eat it or anything.

Wolves and Coyotes can be pretty gutsy and unpredictable when they are hungry enough and they can get really brave when they are in a large pack.
The picture below demonstrates how fearless these animals can be.

Here is a Timber Wolf Stalking a young Grizzly Bear apparently by himself !
