I guess there wasn't enough excitement in PI for this guy!
What's with the trend for firefighters to also be fire bugs?
There was a guy on the Fire Department in Yarmouth that was lighting fires too in the '70's. They never caught him in the act but he was always the first one there!

I don't think it's a trend. IMHO, it's more like a mental illness.

Fire bugs have a "profile" which they usually fit. Investigators know this.

Didn't you ever see that movie, Backdraft? It's a pretty common psychological profile of firefighters being adrenaline junkies and harboring love/hate for flames....no slight to the brave firefighters, though. Just a quirky fact of life.

Well it happened here early this morning. Volunteer firefighter charged with arson in Woodstock fire | Sun Journal

What makes this extremely tragic is that we all know his family.

I guess it's a sickness and looks like attention should be paid to the suspicious.

Particularly with regard to very young children who appear to be unusually obsessed with fire.

Most kids are fascinated to a degree, but there seems to be a distinct difference with people who have a history of setting fires.

Usually, someone in the family can come up with a "memory" of an incident that happened when the offender was young.

I suppose it's like anything else. There are crooks who set fires, people bent on revenge who set fires, but a lot of the time, the ones who were volunteers on a fire department have deeper issues IMO.
