I believe you'll have to pay the good 'ol State of Maine for those wages you earned in Mass. Not sure if you'll have to pay Mass, though.

I believe you pay Mass Taxes and then get credit for the amount paid on your Maine taxes.
Mass has a flat tax of 5.3%

Hmm,

That puts Mass income taxes higher than Maine's two lowest income tax brackets [2.0% and 4.5%], and lower than Maine's two highest income tax brackets.

I believe Mass is 5.3% of federal adjusted gross income.
Taxes are specific to your situation so its hard to generalize.

If you really want to know download the Non-Resident Mass tax form and the Maine resident form and plug in your actual numbers.

Maine's highest income tax rate kicks in at less than $20,000. It's essentially a flat tax.

People who live in NH and work in Maine have to pay Maine income tax. But to be honest I don't know how it works the other way around. Why would a Mass. employer even report that income to the state of Maine?

Call Maine Revenue Services and ask.
