I am moving to Maryland soon and was wondering which town would be a good town for a 40+ single woman. I was thinking about Westminister/Hagerstown in washington county area. Not looking for a college town with alot of nightlife. I don't have any children in the school districts so that's not a concern. Also, I would like to rent an affordable townhome. Any creditable information is appreciated, thank you.

If you don't want to date and can tolerate having the married women staring you down whenever you're near their men... maybe it'll be OK.
This is a small(er) town thing that isn't exclusive to MD.

I get married woman staring at me all the time where I am from so I am used to that. I am more concerned with safety and crime than who's lookin' at me.

You didn't mention that.
Safety and crime aren't much of any (greater) issue to especially worry over anywhere (outside of the center of the 'hood).

You also didn't mention work or other day to day things you'll want or need to do.
Are your options limited to the towns you mentioned (Westminster and Hagerstown)...
or are you open to pretty much any wide spot in the road?

Because if your options are open...

Well I will be working the South Eastern part of Pennsylvania, Northern part of Virginia, and a little in Hagerstown Maryland. Two days in each state every week. I looked at some towns in Virginia but, thought I'd also check out some towns Maryland. Some of the smaller towns in Virginia didn't have alot of rentals available. Maryland is in the center of where I'll be traveling to for work. I like the hometown feel with sidewalks and little shops along the way. Quiet but not too quiet. I looked at Leesburg, VA but, the rent seems a little pricey. Front Royal, VA seems like it might be alright but, then I read alot of shops were closing. Stephens city seems nice but, I think I'm going to have a hard time finding a place to rent. So, I thought I would look at Maryland

With that much traveling you really should focus on the highways and the least inconvenience for the routes you have to do most often as the primary basis for choosing town X over town Y.

One spot along I-70 is pretty much as good (or bad) as any other if your house isn't too far from the exit...
but the N to S roads like getting from Leesburg to Frederick on 15 can be just awful.

Frederick and the towns near/around it are nice.
Have fun poking around.

westminster and hagerstown are worlds apart. heck, split the difference and just move to frederick. it pretty much fits everything you've listed in this thread.
