I am thinking about moving to MD in a few months... I am looking for something new in my life. I have 2 kids ages 9 and 2, so I am looking for a safe area. I hear no area is safe. I want somewhere that has good schools, and plenty of things for me to do with the kids. I am a single mom so I want to live some where nice for my kids but not to expensive. I was thinking about Baltimore County, but there are so many areas that I don't know where to begin looking. The commute is not a problem as I have a car. I also love to shop so areas that have lots of shopping would be good. More importantly than anything I don't want to live in a area that has high crime. Thank you in advance for your suggestions

Columbia is nice. The schools are very good.

Nobody can suggest anything: are you going to work? What is your budget? What is "not too expensive"? Housing situation you are looking for?

Baltimore County sounds like a good fit for your needs. Try Perry Hall, White Marsh.

I don't want this to be taken the wrong way, but it saddens me that someone suggested Perry Hall just a few days ago. Less than a month ago, a boy was shot at his high school in Perry Hall (it was the first day of school at that). Just today, an 8th grader brought a gun to his middle school in Baltimore County. I have lived in Baltimore my whole life, and am looking forward to leaving when my lease is up in April! I'm considering Howard County, for starters, but haven't concluded on where to go. Please do not move to Baltimore County/City if you are looking for an atmosphere fit to raise your children in!

@ Flamingo13. I am going to work of course... as far as price for an apt/house I dont want to pay over 1000/month...., but I dont want to be in a dump either so I am flexible when it comes to that. I like the finer things in life. I live in the county now in Virginia.

@Shewasanicegirl I understand what you are saying, but stuff like that happens all the time in what ever state I choose to move to. I know no city/ county or state is perfect. I just want something different for my kids and I. I feel like a move to another state would be that. I want more out of life and sad to say Virginia isnt going to do it for me. I dont know how another state will but I will have a chance to check it out for myself.

@htownterp thank you so much, i was thinking about Baltimore County but its so many areas to choose from that i gave up looking.

@Jamiegrey i will give columbia a look, thank you

Default @mi2gurlz

I'm looking to relocate as well to MD or VA from FL. I'm a teacher and education in FL is NOT good. From my research, Columbia is where I decided would be the best fit for me. As for VA, so far Hampton appears to be ok...haven't done much research on VA yet.
