My husband may have to commute from the Westminster area to Arlington for a few months. Right now we are wrestling with commuting vs. him just staying in a hotel down there. It's been a while since we made use of the DC metro so we are not sure what's the best option.

So far it seems his options are to either drive to Shady Grove or Greenbelt to take the metro, or the MARC train I guess out of BWI. Does anyone have experience with this drive- what's the easiest option?

It will be a long commute but something from the other end of the Red Line (Glenmont - Silver Spring) might be better than shady Grove It has been a lot of years but I did a 'temporary commute' From Finksburg to Silver Spring when I first moved back to the area. The exact route may depend on exactly where you are starting from in Westminster but MD 97 runs down to Silver Spring from Westminster instead of going over to Shady Grove from Westminster (Probably on MD 27)

Boy I'm thinking 2 days of this will be enough before he opts for the hotel. We live at the southern edge of CC and my ride to Gaitherburg ws 45 minutes. It takes us about 30 to get to Westminster. Then you add on the train to Arlington plus parking/walking and it's over 2 hours one way easily. I'm not sure Silver Spring would be any easier.

Good luck

Agreed, I think the trip from Westminster to Arlington down Route 97 will easily be 2 hours each way. There is a one-lane portion in Brookville through the historic town. I'd vote for the hotel.

Thanks all. I figured it would be a nightmare. Oh well, him being away from home is crummy but at least it's a job!
