We are relocating to the Annapolis area and have found two houses we like... one in Severna Park and one in Arnold. We have three children (12 and under) and have heard that there are great public schools in both towns... Any thoughts on how the towns differ would be helpful. The home in Arnold is in a neighborhood and the one in Severna Park is not. Is that a big deal in terms of being able to joint a local pool and social opportunities?

Both Arnold & Severna Park are "areas" not towns like Annapolis. There is nothing wrong with them, did you ever consider the Crofton area?

School, community, clubs & church's are great ways for social contacts for you & your children. Regarding pools if the community association does not have a pool we are talking private swim club. The club season has started, you may find ones that are full or have a waiting list to join. Some swim clubs operate under a refundable bond & yearly dues for membership (eg: $1,000.00 bond + annual dues). Concept is when you quit the club a prospective person on the clubs waiting list buys your bond.

I second the recommendation for Crofton area (not necessarily the triangle). I like its proximity to Annapolis/Baltimore/DC and shopping (the Waugh Chapel centers). I live in an established neighborhood and our pool and tennis membership is included in our HOA fees--which only run around $150 every 3 months.

Personally, I find Arnold a bit too suburban for me. I honestly do not get the appeal of Severna Park at all.

Not too much difference between SP and Arnold. We live in a neighborhood in SP that does not have a pool so we joined another neighborhood pool....inexpensive bond and yearly fee. PM me if you want to know more...it is in SP. If you live in Arnold or SP you are in the same general area, school quality is similar, people are similar.
