greetings there. I move from Raleigh to MD about a year ago. I would definately avoid rockville or silverspring. It's crazy on the traffics and with folks working in DC, you are paying premium on housing.
Where you plan to work anyway?

But they're both fantastic places to raise kids. The schools are fantastic, there's tons to do with kids, there are weekend festivals when the weather gets warmer, the new Rockville library is wonderful, etc.

Compared to just about anywhere in NC, the traffic and cost of living will be a shock. But I think everyone coming to this area from NC already expects that.

Just curious as to why you are moving from NC to MD. I am retiring from the MD school system and relocating to NC. I have lived here for 36 years and a native of NC, but thought I might move back a slower pace and more peaceful surroundings. Just hope I won't get bored. Plan to maybe sub at a local school two days a week for mental stimulation. Since you are looking for a good place to live in MD, Crofton, Severn(Anne Arundel Cty) Columbia (Montgomery Cty) Bowie (Prince George's Cty). Schools are better in Anne Arundel Cty. Good luck.

I'm a big advocate for parts of PG County, but if you are looking into public school I would look elsewhere. The high schools are not good, except Eleanor Roosevelt High in Greenbelt. If you can live in that school's district, it would be a good place to live.
