I am looking to buy a house in the Fort Meade area. l want an area that will have good schools, be safe for kids, be a reasonable commute to Fort Meade, and would prefer somewhere that we can walk to the downtown area, pool, and library. We came from a small town and I really would like to find a small town atmosphere. It is hard to judge how long the commute would be as I am not familiar with the traffic patterns. Any advice would be appreciated!!!

Your choices are Columbia, Ellicott City, Sykesville, and the SW outskirts of Annapolis..Maybe Crofton.

Thank you for your advice. We have looked in Columbia and Laurel but they both seem very spread out compared to what we are hoping for. We will try Ellicott City and Crofton next. Sykesville sounds like it might be nice, but we were hoping for a shorter commute. Thanks again.

Millersville? Had some friends that lived over that way. What about the communities right outside the gate? They always look nice when I'm on my way to the Commissary.

I would say 15-20 min depending where in Catonsville you will be. Usually traffic to FM is ok. It's south of FM where the roads start to clog. There are also some great back roads to learn if the main arteries fail. Charlie
