I'm going to be moving to the Ft Meade area after the new year and am wondering where the best schools are, where not to live, best commute into post...questions like that. If anyone could give me some advice before we head up there from NC. Thanks

I don't recall them off the top of my head, but when you in-process at Fort Meade, you'll be given the base commander's list of areas that are off-limits, and these include some areas of Odenton, Severn, and possibly Laurel. That being said, the choices of Crofton, Columbia, and Serverna Park are all very good ideas. I'm particularly partial to Columbia and Crofton.

Russett, a subdivision in Laurel is just outside Meade. I used to live in Bowling Brook, also in Laurel, in Howard Co. and it's only a 5-8 min commute to Ft. Meade. The schools are better in the Bowling Brook area

You have to watch the area right next to Ft. Meade. The area near Reece Road is rough to say the least. Odenton is nice in *most areas. Severna Park is very nice but pricey. Pasadena isn't bad in *most areas. Welcome to the area!

Are these really reasonable commutes from the areas you all have suggested? Crofton? Severna Park? Etc?

We are also possibly relocating to Ft Meade and I am concerned about traffic, would like to keep the commute to 30 minutes or less, but we will not sacrifice good schools and a safe neighborhood to do it.

Any thoughts?

Check out the Elkridge/Ellicott City area. 30 minutes is definitely doable.
