Does any one have any info on what the commute would be like from just north of the towson area (maybe a few miles up 83) to the Columbia/Laurel area? Google maps says that Cockeysville to Laurel is 50 mins (1 hr in traffic) if you go 83 S to 295 S. Just wondering what it would actually be in rush hour traffic, if i left at like 6 or 7 am, and left work around 3 or 4 pm.

Similarly, what would the commute be from Cockeysville, MD to York, PA be for my wife? Google maps says 40 mins, but traffic is a big wild card, so just wanted to get a sense of what 83 was like. My guess would be that traffic isn't too too bad going 83 N in the morning and south in the afternoon, since the majority of traffic would be suburbians going to Baltimore, not the other way around.

Also how does the winter affect things? Obviously any area along the northeast/mid atlantic is going to get a their fair share of snow storms where travel is a pain, but I'm just wondering how often it happens (im used to new england)

Thanks

going north will be fine... its everyone coming down to baltimore from PA... columbia around the beltway wont be too harsh cause the back ups are from 70/695 south (outer loop) and 795 to 95 north side(parkville) inner loops... and howco south is a pain cause everyone going to DC... your should be not bad

You're looking at around 45-60 minutes in rush hour traffic. I have a co-worker who lives in Columbia who commutes to here in Towson.

I also currently live in Towson, MD and will be commuting to Columbia, MD. Any idea, how long it takes in the morning rush hour drive? I will be driving on I 695W, than I 70W and US-29S. Thank you.
If it is problematic, any alternative routes to reach Columbia MD in the morning? Thank you

Look at a map. See how many other commuter laden areas you'll need to pass through?

In daylight, clear weather, no accidents and mid day traffic... it's still 28 miles and 35 minutes.
Add for side streets, regular commuter congestion, let alone accidents...

The best alternative would be to MOVE to Columbia... or nearby.

If I-70 is congested, then Route 40 is possible. Otherwise, the alternate routes are through local streets, and unlikely to be better.
