I don't have any fees to pay here, thank goodness! Another perk of being military.

It's less for a first-time license or renewal, it's $100 to convert an out-of-state license. That's a one-time thing. It's not that big a deal. I think to change your license to NY or CA costs more.

Actually, according the link Valarie posted, it is actually 125$ to convert. It may not be a big deal to you, but as someone who moves around every 2-3 yrs, paying to have licenses changed all the time can get spendy. Thankfully it was recently changed that military spouses can maintain the residency of spouse or from their home of record.

Just went through this process (NY to MA). $100 to convert from NY to MA license. $125 to register car in MA. $35 for inspection (must be done within one week of registration). You'll need to turn in your NY State license plates to NY DMV, then you get a form that you provide to your NY State insurance agent to cancel your NY State car insurance - after you get car insurance in MA first, of course (so there's no lapse in coverage).

It's $125 for Class A, which is commercial. The regular passenger car license is Class D, which is $100. In any event, it's less than I have to pay in ATM fees every year-I belong to a credit union with few ATMs. There are a lot of ripoffs out there. Since car ownership in MA is costing me so much less than NYC, I was happy to pay and switch it over.
