Hi everyone,
We are moving to the Reading/Wakefield area this summer and have seen some houses come up in the Greenwood section. However, we were told that we should probably look at other towns b/c it's "bohemian". First, what in the world does that mean? Coming from Maryland, I've only ever heard that term in reference to a culture. Second, what is that area like? Is it safe, good schools, kid friendly etc?

Thanks!

Can't imagine what is implied by that. It's a super convenient location with the commuter rail right there, a few small restaurants, and good access to other services in Wakefield and Stoneham. You should know that the Greenwood section of Wakefield is on the south side of the town, bordering Melrose, not Reading.

gf2020 is correct.

I have lived in the Greenwood section of Wakefield. This is a very nice area. Mostly older homes but some newer ones near school and up on Forest Street. Very established area. And some shops and stores. And the MBTA train is there.

Some of the old timers will remember that the old B&M train station in Greenwood was moved to Pleasure Island off 128 (a Disney imitation that lasted only a few years).

Near enough to get to 128, 95, and Route 1. But far enough to be a quiet nice neighborhood.

Most would love to live in this area.

Thanks! Anyone else have anything to add? I'm going to have my husband take a look at the town since he is up there already. Do the kids there go to Reading schools?

No, it's a section of Wakefield. The children go to Wakefield schools.

It is a very nice section of Wakefield, bordering on Melrose. I don't have any idea why it would be called bohemian as it is a quiet, suburban, area of Wakefield. It is within walking distance of the train though which is definitely a plus. I don't think any of the suburban towns north of Boston could be called bohemian. When I think bohemian, I definitely think more like Cambridge or JP.
