Finally getting my MA drivers license... How do I do that? (transfer to, DMV)

What do I need to do? Is it a simple process? I'm off this week, and just lost my TX DL, so the timing works out...

I might be wrong on this, but you may be better off having TX reissue the DL and then doing a transfer to a MA license. I think if you go in there without a license you have to start from scratch (written test, road test, etc.). But again....I'm not totally sure.

Thats correct. When i moved to MA in 02, i just walked in RMV & got my NJ license transferred to MA. No written/road test anything. Piece of cake..

Agreed. You'll probably have trouble going in to have your license switched without your actual TX license to turn in.

That explains it!!!! We let all the untested New Joisey drivers onto our roads and all hell has since broken loose. We obviously have no standards whatsoever for licensing....just about anybody....

This is from the MA RMV gov't web site:

"You must provide the RMV with your current out-of-state photo License and proof of your current Massachusetts residency.

You must present the following:
Out-of-state License. If your out-of-state License DOES NOT have a photo, you must present acceptable photo ID from the Acceptable Identification Documents List.

Note: If you do not have your out-of-state License to surrender, you must provide a photo ID from the Acceptable Identification Documents list of identification AND a certified driving record not more than 30 days old from the state where you currently hold your License..

-Document proving date of birth
-Document proving signature
-Document proving Massachusetts residency
Note: An out-of-state License presented as one of the ID documents can be used document to confirm signature OR date of birth. It CANNOT be used to confirm both.
-A Social Security Number (SSN) that the RMV can verify with the U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA) as having been issued to you OR an acceptable Denial Notice from the SSA. If you present a Denial Notice, you must also present proof of acceptable visa status, an I-94 (Record of Arrival and Departure), and a current non-U.S. Passport.

All documents must be originals. Photocopies will not be accepted. You must also clear a check through the National Driver Register and pay the required fees. "

Holy crap. I had no idea it would be such an ordeal! I'm going to Austin in July. Looks like I'll be getting a duplicate of my TX DL.

Yah it's either that or a certified copy of your driving record. Either way you have to get something from Texas to complete the process. :/

I have been in MA for quite a few years now & I find it ez to drive in NJ. Now no one can beat NYC. It's a whole different ball game..

Check with the texas DMV. Lots of states let you replace a license by mail. It might not be that big of a deal.
