We just moved to Malden, and were wondering if anyone used the bike path that is, from my information, fairly new? It would be nice to be able to bike from our location to downtown (we're about 2 miles away, just far enough to be out of walking distance, but dragging the car around that distance seems silly). Just looking to bike around to go out at night. Not sure if it would be safe, or if we would be the only ones out there (which would be kind of creepy). Thanks.

Where is the bikepath in Malden? I wonder how I might've missed it. And by downtown, I suppose you mean Malden's town center?

The Minuteman bike path in Arlington and Lexington is very busy, but the one in Malden isn't well known and hasn't had much use yet. Part of the problem is that it doesn't really go anywhere, but they say that some day it'll run all the way to the sea. I walked it once and found it blocked at one spot with signs saying there was toxic waste there, and there wasn't even a way out and back in, unless you detoured up someone's driveway, which I did and felt a little guilty about. As for whether it's "safe" I couldn't guess. Most of the time it looks pretty lonely, so who's there?
