Hi All!

My girlfriend and I are moving from Brighton, Ma to Quincy. The closest landmark near where will be living is the Adams National Historic Park near the Red Line. How is this area, in general? Is it safe? What about at night to be walking to and from the t-station?

Finally, we are both young professionals. How is the area in terms of nice places to go out and eat or get some drinks? We are concerned that by moving to quincy we might not have many options and will get bored. Living in brighton is great because there are plenty of places to walk to and it's easy to get into the city.

Any advice would be awesome!!!

Thanks in advance!

--Dan

I am not sure what you mean by West Quincy because the area around the Adams Homestead is actually right by Quincy Center, and is located at the base of two hills, Hospital and Presidents hills. If you are where I think you are, then the area is very nice, with many joggers and walkers at all times. I belong to Planet Fitness right down the road, and so I drive by the area all the time. Most of Quincy is absolutely safe, and so you should have no problems.

There are many restaurants in and around Quincy Center. Fat Cat, Alba, Punjab Fuji, and a huge assortment of others n Wollaston Center or North Quincy Center down the road on Hancock street. The Assembly is a great bar-restaurant for hanging out. Quincy does not have the college kids density of Brighton so it will be different.

I'm actually close to the Bradford St Playground. At the intersection of President's ave, Franklin st, and Bradford st. I think where you might be thinking is real close to quincy center.

Thanks!

For as long as I lived and grew to like Quincy, I hardly even venture toward the south of the city. I have no business ever venturing into Weymouth or Braintree, and so I have no reason to ever go to S Quincy. I think KamMan supermarket is as far as I would get into South Quincy (I am not sure even if that is south). So I have no idea if the area is nice or not. It seems that Quincy is prospering from the north and east toward the center and bleeding into northwest....the south is being left behind. Maybe we can just cede that part to Weymouth.

In a few years time, Quincy Center is set to revitalize as never before! The works are already in progress right now. Until then, Quincy will still pale a bit to Allston/Brighton or Cambridge in terms of nightlife. It is still a very family oriented suburban city. Still, if you like Asian food, you've hit the right place as Quincy is arguably the Asian capital of Greater Boston outside of Chinatown and you can find sushi, bubble tea, hot pots, and other Asian delicacies everywhere in the city.

I just hope that it stays "Quincy" rather than turn into a Somerville or God forbid, Allston Brighton.

I'm familiar with Quincy and I've never seen a spot in the city I consider really dangerous. (And I'm a wuss.) I do know someone who got mugged in the Quincy Adams T stop once, but I've used the stop a lot and have never felt threatened.

It doesn't have as many high end restaurants as Brighton and I consider most of the neighborhood bars a bit sketchy. (Brighton has yuppy bars and Boston has studenty bars, Quincy has a lot of neighborhood sports bars) However, there are a few really nice restaurants...Kagawa Sushi, a great Mexican restaurant in Weymouth called El Sarape. I'm told there are a lot of very authentic Chinese restaurants. Great places to hike in the Blue Hills, beaches to the south, and the red line takes you straight to Cambridge.

Thanks everyone for the great responses! I really appreciate it! I moved last week and so far Quincy definitely seems like a nice place. I have yet to do a lot of exploring but I have been out a few times.
