Hi,

Does anyone have a sense for how using thermofoil for refacing instead of wood impacts resale value? We are planning on refacing our oak cabinets with either white painted cabinets or white thermofoil (or whatever nice artificial material they use nowadays). The samples of thermofoil we saw looked nice and it's much cheaper than using real wood.

We're concerned about how using thermofoil instead of wood may impact resale value. We live in Wellesley, MA and when we sell our house it will probably be in the $900k-$950k range.

Anyone have any opinions on this?

Thanks,
PB

If you're in Wellesley and expect to eventually sell in the 9's, there is no way I would recommend using thermofoil doors. Go with real wood.

Thanks Mike, good advice!

We may choose to refinish instead of refacing them. We were concerned about painting our oak cabinets white, since oak tends to have a grain. But it sounds like people do that successfully, which we should be able to do if we hire the right person.

Thanks,
PB
