We are new to the area, living in Lynnfield. What are some of the best places to take little ones (2 and 4) to the beach on the North Shore? Thanks!

One of the best is Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester. There are a few other wonderful beaches in Gloucester too with nice sand, shallow water, clean, no cliffs or steep steps to climb. Just park and walk onto the beach. Wingersheek Beach is great for kids too--at low tide you can walk way out on the sand bars and splash in the little pools.

I'll second Good Harbor. There's the mouth of a river or stream to one side with very shallow, low current water (might depend on tide) where very young kids can play, while the older kids play in the surf.

We love Cranes Beach in Ipswich and Wingaersheek is another favorite on the north shore, but you need to get there early especially on the weekend for both. Once the lot is full, they will only allow residents with a resident's beach sticker.... Beaches on Nahant are beautiful, but are restricted to residents-only, except for Long Beach-the very first beach area on the left. It's probably the closest for you to get to from Lynnfield.

I grew up in Gloucester and spent the majority of my life at good harbor . I now live in west Peabody and usually go to cranes in Ipswich or Nahant as well as the previous posters . Good harbor is not the beach it once was, and is expensive if you are not a resident with a sticker.
