I'll be working in Warwick and would prefer to drive to work. My spouse will be working in Boston and cannot drive, so it will need to be a location where she can take the train. I found a lot of rentals in Attleboro but it seems kind of unbalanced for her, giving her a longer commute. We'd like it to be equal in time

First suggestion: Franklin

A lot is going to depend on your budget but Franklin, Sharon, Canton, Mansfield, Walpole and Foxboro are all places to consider. Basically, anyplace along I95 could work.

There are basically two commuter systems. The subway which only goes out so far then commuter rail (trains) which go out pretty far. Both may require stop changes but usually subway stop changes are more convenient then train to subway stops. There are also bus lines and worth checking out. I know less about bus lines but as I said, worth checking out.

Typically subways are color coded (Red, Green), busses are numbered, and train lines are named.

Work backwards. Trace the subway/train/bus line from the location in town (Boston) and work out from there. The commute to Warwick will be by car so the need for public transportation will be more the deciding factor as to location.

Google MBTA.

Hope this helps.

Stick with the I-95 corridor (Mansfield, Walpole or Sharon).

Attleboro is a 50 minute train ride to Boston and 20-30 minutes to Warwick (depending on where in Warwick). Some areas (especially where a lot of the apartments are) can be a little dodgy.

Franklin and Norfolk will add unnecessary time for both of you.

Yup these are the towns i was thinking of too. Look on the mbta lines that canton is on and the franklin one and map out commutes from the towns on mbta.com. If you could gve budget/school importance though, we could help narrow down towns.

thanks for the suggestions. we're renting first and we only need a 1 bedroom. we really want to stay under 1200 for rent. schools quality is unimportant but we would obviously prefer an area with low crime although we're in new bedford now, so i think most places would be an improvement in that area.

I'm using padmapper and there are quite a few available in attleboro at that price but only very few further north along i-95 until you get inside 93. framingham area has a lot, as well as some other places, but the commute to warwick would be too much

Driving south on 95 through Providence to Warwick between 7:00-8:00AM takes 30-45 minutes. Your commute might end up being longer if you're both on normal business hours.

I totally agree with erasing Framingham from your list and sticking to I-95 towns.

Stick to the Providence line if you can. The Franklin line gets you there but it's a lot slower.
