Even in Lexongton, more kids go to - gasp! - UMass and Northeastern more than any other college (both fine schools).

Unless proximity to Boston is important, I would pick Maynard over Waltham and cut my commute time in half. Waltham at this point is noticeably more expensive that Maynard and you get similar amenities. You're also surrounded by some of the best outdoor recreation in Maynard, which isn't the case in Waltham. Hudson would work but it just gets you farther from Concord with no savings in cost.
