My Dad is Portuguese and my Mom Brazilian. East Cambridge was always a Portuguese area and there are plenty of Portuguese and Brazilian restaurants there as well as St. Anthony Church which is a Portuguese church. New Bedford and Fall River was always heavily Portuguese and when those folks got a little money they would move to Somerset and Dartmouth. The Somerville/East Cambridge crowd moved up to Saugus and Peabody.

In Saugus (or Sawgust as the Portuguese call it) hosts the Feast of the Holy Spirit every year in early July. I remember going as a kid.

Provincetown has a population of 3,000. New Bedford and Fall River were 100,000 before they shrank to 95,000 and 88,000.

With the influx of latino immigration, I would guess that New Bedford and Fall River are now 20% latino, 60% Portuguese/Brazil/Islands, and 20% "other".

My bad. I assumed there was a large Portuguese population due to the annual Portuguese picnic and the Portuguese club in Milford.

There is. They were there long before the Brazillians got there. My guess is the Brazillians settled there partially due to the language connection existing in town. Same with Hudson, Cambridge/Somerville and Peabody. Not sure why the Brazillians never followed the Portuguese to FR/NB and Taunton in the same manner, possible due to no economic opportunity there?

Acushnet Ave. (or simply "The Avenue") in New Bedford is the center of Portuguese/Azorean culture in that part of the state.
