Besides the obvious answer of never/don't/you are crazy. I'm going to the cape on Saturday. (i.e. memorial day weekend) It's not my idea, I don't want to, but it is what it is. We are going to Truro to be exact. I'm leaving from Bellingham, so 495 to 6. My instinct is to get up as early as possible and leave by 6am. What time should I leave to minimize the pain?

If you leave by 6:00 AM, even 7:00 AM, you will have no issues.

This weekend, most people travel Thursday and Friday. The Saturday traffic gets bad when the weeklong renters come down because Saturday is turnover day. You might hit a little traffic down Cape for daytrippers but you should be good getting on with an early morning departure time.

Sunday is a good day to travel. If not for the weather I would be heading off today like I have for years and face no problems. I would return on Memorial day and since I'm going against traffic I would be able to cruise along. I have seen Rt6a backed up for miles and one year it was really bad with Rt6 being backed up to the rotary in Orleans which is exit 13 and about 36 miles.

Heading home Monday is supposed to be rainy so most people will probably head home early. I would hit the road later that day.

Good luck and have fun
