Anyone have first hand experience with average commute time (driving) during rush hour from Winchester to Kendall Square area of Cambridge?

I have a friend who is looking at houses there.

No first hand experience, just hearsay about how bad the commute is (not to mention the parking situation once you get there). I would look to take the 350 bus, or drive, to Alewife and take the T to Kendall Square. Winchester's a great location!

Depends on where you live in Winchester.

I have a good friend who lives on the Lexington side, near the Vinson-Owen school, and he is 25-50 minutes in to Kendall Square, depending on the time he leaves and traffic. He says if he was closer to Arlington or Medford that could save 15 minutes.

Most of the major employers (Biogen, Shire, Momenta, etc.) provide a stipend for parking for their employees ($320 per month in the Kendall Square South garage, for example).

It's nearly twice as long as it used to be, however all in all it's still a reasonable commute at about 45 min depending on exactly where in Winchester. Waze can help with some back routes.
