Is this PC world of new becoming a little one sided?
The movie that she was mocking and called racist for was a movie of black people mocking white people.
The irony is so great it may make your head spin.
Maybe I'm missing something here.
There's a difference that's fairly obvious. The running joke of that terrible, terrible movie is basically how hapless and stupid the guys dressed up in white face are. While there were some jabs at stereotypical privileged, valley girl culture (more specifically, thinly veiled jabs at Paris Hilton and her sister - you have to remember the time) not white people in general. What's more, is that the running joke is the ineptitude of the main characters and how ridiculous they and their plan are. It's not all that different from Robert Downy Jr. in black face in Tropic Thiunder and was, himself, the punchline. While I am beyond hesitant to call either White Chicks or Tropic Thunder "tasteful," they do highlight the differences between mocking a race/culture (i.e. this student in blackface making fun of the movie/main characters), and using black/whiteface to mock oneself (dressing up in white/blackface to show that the Wayans Bros/Downy Jr's characters are idiots). The difference is pretty clear.
She should have dressed up as one of the black guys who dressed up as white chicks. Then she wouldn't have needed the brown makeup and there would have been no uproar. I assume that if I, being white, dressed up as Michael Jackson without wearing any brown makeup, that would be ok?

Michael Jackson turned himself white so I don't think he's the best example...
Ha. Good point on the tropic thunder thing. I do see the differences. But I guess the main point is there will never be a world where people don't poke fun of or mock certain things about certain people, weather it be height, weight, race, whatever.
It's up to the intelligent person to take a case by case basis and ask if it's really offensive, or did someone else tell you it should be. It seems that nowadays its the latter rather than the former. i don't know many black people that would be offended by that costume. It it may sadly be because they nor I were raised in this hyper sensitive world. Things are getting nutty. I would hate to have children growing up in this. The media rules all and people have little thought of their own. I wish someone would just ask that actor who played said "white chick" if he was offended. I'm willing to bet not. but hey, it's a news story.
Everyone loves a fuuny black guy.Just swear and mock ,insult whites but dnt EVER mock or insult black people.
