Are there any public school orchestra programs in or around Boston?

Yes. Many (most) high schools have it. Just go to the town you're interested in.

Hello,
what age group are you inquiring about? Another question: where are you coming from?
We moved here a year ago, in search of the same thing. Both of our high school-aged children are orchestra students, and we were looking for excellent music programs to transfer them into. To be very honest, we have been greatly disappointed in the quality of school music programs here. Because of small school districts, music programs are often the first thing to get cut...particularly orchestra (band programs less so). Many people are satisfied with the programs; it just depends on what you are accustomed to.
I do believe there are some towns that have excellent programs: Hingham, Duxbury, and Belmont were the best we found...we spoke with the music directors in these 3 schools and were impressed. The problem is that these towns are also very expensive, so "you get what you pay for".
You might also want to look into the youth orchestra programs in both Boston and Providence...there are some excellent opportunities for young musicians there, too. Good luck in your search.

Check out Dartmouth Ma. I know their orchestra has done very well, and has been invited on international trips to play. The instructors are wonderful! And they have many opportunities to travel and play with other children! Dartmouth is known for their support in the arts and music, and the town is GORGEOUS!!! Good luck!
