I will be working in Lexington during the week and spending my weekends out of town. Any thoughts on towns easily commutable (<30 minutes) to Lexington or options in Lexington?

I am thinking a one bedroom apartment. I will have a car. I prefer a complex with fitness facilities. I also favor newer and accommodations that are on the higher end/luxury end of things.

How are the two Avalon communities (Lexington and Lexington Hills)? How is Katahdin Woods of Lexington?

What would a commute from Cambridge or Boston (downtown) to Lexington look like (time and traffic)?

Thanks for the help.

Check out the Tremont in Burlington. Easy commute to Lexington, 93/95 right near by. 351 express bus to alewife right at the door.

I don't specifically know those two Avalon communities, but most Avalons are pretty nice. I'd live in Waltham or Cambridge. Do Cambridge if you want to live in the city. When my husband worked in Lexington, he was in temp housing in Kendall Square. The commute was usually about 40 minutes.

If you want to live in the city and commute to Lexington, live in Cambridge. The commute would be pretty easy, a straight shot up route 2. Boston would be a bit more difficult. Parts of Somerville and Medford would also work well.

Yup.

Cambridge if you want city, Burlington if you want proximity. Cambridge 1 bedroom in a new building will likely start $2400, with parking more like $2700. Burlington will be closer to $1600 including parking.

Lex, Burlington or even Bedford would be good areas to check out if you want to stay local during the work week. I'd second checking out the Tremont. Nice area

Arlington could be a good option too. Sort of a mix of the suburban Bedford/Lexington and the more urban Cambridge.

Katahdin Woods at one time was primarily folks from Hanscom. Not sure if it still is.

If the OP draws 10 mile circle around where they will be working, most any place within that circle will be a easy peasy commute.
