I just don’t understand do people think that rallying against marijuana shops will actually stop them from opening up in the long term?? Do they think that there won’t be shops open in like four years...you would have to literally fight every single marijuana shop, every single time for the rest of your life it makes no sense. Eventually they’ve got to abbreviate the public hearing process a waste of tax payer money to have officials attend these nonsensical meetings. It’s hard not to write off anti marijuana people as nutty sucks in the mud when they’re firmly in the minority but just very vocal. They’re fighting against the law and it really seems a** backwards.

Marty Walsh is using the equity bit of the law to in sure that only a dozen or so marijuana shops ever get opened in Boston. For every one medical dispensary turned recreational they’re going to require one local minority owned type business and all marijuana shops have to be 1/2 of a mile apart from each other not to mention all the school zoning so that will really only leave but room for maybe 15 shops and Boston’s 48 mi.². The traditional power structure in the city doesn’t need it so he’s going to turn it into a patronizing system for minority entrepreneurs that he can leverage for his own political gain. He will have a minority focus approach on his record and keep marijuana largely out of the touristy parts of Boston so as to not cheapen the city’s image. But he has to assert himself first by showing he can control the pace of rollout.

Amsterdam tourism isn't doing too bad.

Plus one of the pot shops furthest along is right next to the Garden.

Yea but that was a political favor and minority owned thing or at least operates.

And to your first point that amsterdam this is Boston. I think it’s a good idea and would work but it’s not a part of the Boston Brand. Atlanta sells black culture, Miami/Vegas/Houston sell party culture, just because it works and makes money doesn’t mean that Boston would embrace it. The power structure at be has its lane and sees no reading to deviate and certiainly doesn’t want to lessen the exclusivity.

Some good clips from last nights meeting on a local pot shop.

https://www.universalhub.com/2018/pa...posed#comments

"Rosenfield said he expects his shop to employ up to 20 people and that in addition to hiring local folks"

"We're going to have this conversation about parking anywhere we go," Rosenfield said. "Where is there parking in Boston?"

Rosenfield was also supported by residents who said it's about time the eyesore building was fixed up. Ovesen said his father has tried to rent out the space, but aside from brief interest from a tanning salon and a restaurant, nobody has wanted to move into it.
