HomeAway or WeNeedAVacation? Which do you like if you have used them?
HomeAway seems to have better properties than WeNeedAVacation.


Who do you trust the most?


Looking at properties in Cape Cod, MA - Falmouth, Mashpee area.

I've used homeaway on the Cape (usually the Outer Cape) and it's been fine. Honestly, you'll probably find many of the same rentals on multiple sites (VRBO/Homeaway, Airbnb, etc.). I don't think you'll have a hard time with any of them. Not sure about WeNeedAVacation, but I'd imagine you'll find the listings there in a few other places too.

We've mostly used HomeAway, but also VBRO once or twice. Most of the rentals have been fine.

WeNeedAVacation fan here. Not sure what the local connection is, but we've found some ridiculously good Nantucket rentals on there over the years listed nowhere else.

I check all the sites until I find a rental I like. There are a lot of repeats among the sites as already mentioned. However, there are plenty that are not on more than one site.

Personally, I don't trust any of the sites. I've seen scam ads on all of them. I once reached out about a rental and was sent a lease asking me to wire my deposit to London. Obvious scam and when I looked up the name of the home's owner in the public records I found the names didn't match. So that was a pretty obvious one.

This. No website is perfect as they depend on the property owners to provide accurate info. Make sure you do your diligence. The more reviews, the better. Any unusual payment requests? Pass. Price seem too good to be true? It probably is. There's no reason it shouldn't be transparent and straightforward.
