They should have a flamethrower. And a stinger missile. An assault helicopter as well. You don't need them, until you do, so throw money at them for their toooooooys.

The insurance analogy should have ended the discussion. The others were bright enough to drop out.

The fact that you've put forth an argument that completely falls apart when I simply ask "why now?" should be a pretty clear hint that you should have dropped out also.

But feel free to get in the last word, lrfox.

LOL. Haven't read the story so have no idea whether it's true or not, but what the hell did they do to capture the marathon bombers? First there was a firefight overnight where one of the brothers got run over by a car and the other one ran away. Then they searched all over Watertown and couldn't even find him until one of the homeowners realized he was in his backyard. They needed a SWAT team for that?

Oh yes, you outsmarted us all with your brilliant insurance analogy! That’s why nobody is responding to this, not at all because they’re simply staying out of yet another online argument. When budgets are at stake, it doesn’t make sense to keep a redundant service that isn’t used. Do you keep multiple insurance policies with the same coverage for your car or home? With several SWAT and Tactical Support teams serving the same jurisdictions, it’s no longer insurance, it’s excessive.

The Transit Police haven’t commented on “why now” which is why nobody can answer it. There’s no info out there on that but if you’re itching for speculation, there is some context. The Transit Police have a long history of budget woes. They’ve attempted mergers with the state police in the past as a result. They’ve gone fiscal year after fiscal year without using the SWAT team for anything close to its intended purpose. COVID has decimated state tax revenue and we are facing a budget shortfall. There is a political climate demanding drastic changes to law enforcement so many agencies are looking to make cuts and adjustments. The agency may have felt the 6 members of the team are more useful in other capacities. The answer to “why now?” could be one of these things or a combination. Or it could be something entirely different. But it’s not as if there’s no possible reason to do it other than politics.

Actually no. This should have ended the insurance analogy
