I am having some water leak in my fireplace in a fairly new home (>2000). I suspect it is my chimney cap that needs replacing, but I'd really like recommendations on who does this sort of thing. I'm in Metrowest.

Typically any chimney masonry company will install caps. Google is the best path as the reviews tends to weed out the worst actors. Given the age of your home, a cap would probably resolve your issues, but a professional should advise.

On older chimneys, failed cement on the crown can allow a lot of water intrusion. Additionally, failing mortar joints can allow wind driven rain to intrude flues. I suppose this could happen to a newer chimney if joints ‘popped’ on the first fire, but typically the installer will test and address any joint/mortar issues prior to walking off the job site.

If your chimney is framed, it could be a flashing issue.

Got it. Thank you! I was not sure what to look up, but this makes sense to me. I've contacted three well reviewed chimney masonry places. I will report back on how this works out for others in the future.

I had my chimney cap installed buy the same guys that swept my chimney and did flashing. A lot of these companies to anything related to chimneys.

Then I realized that if I do my own flashing I get better results but that is a different story.
