I suppose you're right.

I'm basically reading that as you have to be getting income via W2 or 1099, though all of the investment 1099s (B, DIV, INT, etc) don't apply obviously as if someone could claim 1099-DIV income as 'still working' a lot more people would be exploiting the rules to throw more money in retirement accounts even after they've stopped working or to delay RMDs.

Not sure if that's how the Census Bureau also looks at it though. I actually imagine their data is largely collected just by asking people, so they probably get some responses that may not be entirely accurate.
Health become sa huge factor as well. Relative to housing requirements disability has to count as a form of income otherwise the denial would put millions of people on the streets. So what percentage of baby boomers are on disability? Then there's the leap to what counts as a disability? If a chemical dependency is considered a disability would then a drug addict technically be considered a job? uh... that would really be exploiting rules.

I would make an argument that more people have conditions now just based on that we can identify and treat them.

Probably beating a dead horse, but this is the worst time to buy (and best time to sell). The other thing is that, unless you're been living under a rock, a nice place closer to boston is going to set you back at least a mil. And for a single family with good schools, anything under 1.8 mil is going to be a dump.

I myself could afford a 800-900k single family, and that means I'm looking at Framingham/Hopkinton, which is nice but it's not exactly close to work in Cambridge. So looks like I'll be renting for the time being.

Unless your job absolutely weds you here, leave Boston/Massachusetts and never look back. And even if your job does wed you here, there are always other jobs. Leaving MA is the best thing I ever did, no more terrible weather, overpriced subpar housing, endless traffic and some of the most unpleasant, arrogant people on the face of the Earth.

I agree that the market is ridiculously overpriced, but come on man those numbers there are a "bit" of exaggeration. You do NOT need 1.8 million to buy a decent single family with good schools.

It was great for me in ct. I'm about 30-45 minutes from Worcester, Hartford and Springfield. Rate is 2.75% and no pmi and I'm paying 35% less than renting where I was. In fact pretty much all of my household bills (water, electric, internet, food and fuel) add up to my old rent with mortgage . This is including interest and insurance

I'm not saying everything will bf telecommuted but with hybrid you can be further out

I don’t have endless traffic. My housing costs are manageable. I’m a mile from the beach and 0.7 to the boat slip. It’s a mild winter on the South Coast and 90F in the summer is unusual. Not everyone lives inside I-495 with the congestion and insane housing prices.

Either you couldn't make it work in MA so you are bitter at those who can (Like Curt Schilling) or you dont travel much at all.
