I went today with my DH and kids and the experience seemed very different from when I was a kid. They changed the name I know, but when I was a kid I remember their being a section with teepees and people dressed up in Native American gear. There were no Native Americans dressed up or teepees. Just the British settlers which was pretty interesting but I just remember it seeming way more interactive. I did talk to a few of them. My kids are 5 and 6 so they may have been a little young. They were mostly interested in the animals.

Overall it was $120 for 2 adults and 2 kids to walk around see some people dressed up in costumes. I was kind of disappointed.

Having grown up in WMass, our school classes always went to Old Sturbridge Village, not Plymouth. I've been twice to see the Mayflower though and I didn't pay that high amount of money to take the tour. I just paid to tour the ship and I toured the wonderful museum.

Maybe they're trying to be more politically correct or something. I have a Pilgrim ancestor so I subscribe to their genealogy site on FB. Seems this past year they've been emphasizing native Americans a lot more than they used to so maybe they're in a transitional stage of trying to set the record straight. BTW, 2020 was supposed to be a huge celebration year, 400th anniversary of the landing with all sorts of programs and activities. Just about everything had to be cancelled or scaled way down.

Yeah I guess maybe someone was offended by the Native American part ? Who knows. The $120 included the mayflower tour as well.

The Native American village they have was in the summer months.

You can most likely get free passes at your local library. They have passes for lots of places like the MFA, Science Museum, Children's Museum. Sturbridge Village, etc.

I think teepees were historically incorrect for East Coast Indians, who lived in lodges and dugout houses. Teepees were on the plains and such. So maybe they were removed for being inaccurate, not incorrect or something.

It is still there, but I think only during the summer.

I knew a fair number of employees back in high school. You get some of your artsy ones. On a better note King Richards Faire is a go for this fall.

I went three years ago in the summer and there was a Native American village with lodges and actual Wampanoag people staffing it. I went at no cost as part of the Highland Steet Foundation annual summer free fridays at museums all over Massachusetts. Have visited Old Sturbridge Village, Worcester Art Museum, Patriots HOF, Hancock Shaker Village for free via this program. Many other places such as MFA, Peabody-Essex Museum, and JFK Library are usually also in the summer rotation.

This program typically runs ever summer but was cancelled last year due to Covid. Check it out for updates for 2021:

My last visit was in a yellow school bus. I didn’t realize adults actually went there voluntarily.

Comedian! Traitor, lol. Touring the ship is fun and seeing how tiny it is inside is a real eye opener. The museum they have is also really interesting. I never took the tour but it's probably good, like the tour of Old Sturbridge Village. A really knowledgeable and smart person like you would have to be dragged to Plymouth?
