Central Ave (along with Highland and a few others) is a pretty heavy through-traffic road. I've never lived in Needham but I've spent a lot of time on that road. Not saying they can't be locals, but I wouldn't doubt for a minute at least a couple were coming/going to Dover, Medfield, Sherborn, or another town.

If they aren't, I guarantee just as many Needham residents on average are getting popped in other jurisdictions. People don't limit themselves to driving in one town. And neither alcohol abuse nor law breaking are exclusive to certain towns. Convictions may vary depending on access to legal representation. Almost a pointless subject to debate but we do that a lot here. Some more than others.

Well the final answer would be that yes, Needham does have an alcohol problem...as does Wellesley, Dover, Sherborn, and every other town in Massachusetts.

I'd say that's a safe hypothesis. If you go back a few Presidential administrations we had both a President and a Veep who were both popped for DWI at one time in their lives. There has also never been a shortage of drunk drivers coming off Beacon Hill or Capitol Hill.

I thought it was the south shore that had an alcohol problem. It's shocking how often OUIs happen in Scituate and marshfield for example. Perhaps much of MA has an alcohol problem. Im blaming real estate prices again! HA! The only way people can feel good about how much they spend to live here is to drink.

Nantucket and the Vineyard would tell us to hold their beer, but the bottles are already empty.

Yep. It seems to be ok when wealthy people are alcoholics?

No more or less 'ok' than when anyone else is an alcoholic. Wealthy people experience stresses or situations that may drive them to unhealthy addictions the same as anyone else.

Wealth just often helps people to hide it and deceive themselves a little longer. Wealth is an enabler.

When you read the Needham police blotter (I do) you see that most of the traffic stops are not locals. They're usually people from out of town. Not sure if they're just passing through or if they work here, but the police blotter always cites where they live and most of the time it's not Needham.

This being said, as a resident of the town, I can say there are plenty of people who enjoy an alcoholic beverage here from time to time and I'm sure incidences of OUI are as common among the residents of this town as they are in any other similar town.

Basically, I don't believe that OUIs are any more or less of a problem among Needham residents as they are anyplace else.

My cousin married a guy who grew up on MV. Whenever we talk about it, he paints a really bleak picture about alcohol abuse on the island. He said many of his friends would break into seasonal homes during the winter to steal alcohol from them.

So if you're crazy but you're rich then you're eccentric. Is there an alcoholism equivalent to eccentric?
