Are you saying that you don't like driving at 60+ mph with what seems to be 18" between your car and a wall and car in the next lane??

Yes, I'm kidding.

Using the back of a napkin, I calculate the schedule of construction will take:

Spring 2022-Spring 2023 - 52 weekends = 104 days
May 2022-September 2023 - full closure = 152 days
Fall 2023-Winter 2023 - 26 weekends = 52 days

Total 308 days working 24x7 or about 10.5 months.

The other choices are:

overnights only for 2.5 half years (308 shifts x 3 / 365)
total closure for 10.5 months

Pick your poison.

The total closure might take less time as equipment doesn't have to be moved in and out every weekend but image it closed for that much time.

I'm dreading that full closure next year. Like seriously...we know what the traffic volume's gonna be, with summer travel, etc...what creative solutions are MassDOT gonna come up with? I can see planning flights to avoid weekends, but it's impossible for many to avoid flying during a 4-month period.

Not a bad option...or maybe even Worcester. But BOS has so many attractive nonstop flights!

If they don't have ferry service during this shutdown, then they should.
Another solution would be to not spend any money on a tunnel that is probably close to 100 years old, and spend that money on building a skyway from the city to the airport. I could be a monorail system.
Should have added the monorail when they did the "big dig".

I'm thinking of riding the Concord Bus from Maine to Logan airport, I wonder if that will be an issue?

When? If it’s not late on a Friday, or all day Saturday/Sunday it shouldn’t be an issue. It may not be an issue anyway - they haven’t closed the tunnel the last couple of weekends due to holiday travel and reduced service on the T. Next weekend is another holiday weekend. And unless they find a way to quickly increase T frequencies and repair the garage support column at Haymarket, then the tunnel probably won’t close for the next few weeks.

*edit* Haymarket tunnels are reopened as of this AM. But we’ll see if they close the Sumner again before increasing Blue Line frequencies.

A new skyway would be nice. The cost would probably be astronomical.

One of the best things about living in the city used to be a 10 minute door to door commute to Logan, something few cities offer. Oh well…
