Does anyone have experience commuting from Holden, MA to Belmont, MA? I work in Belmont and am wondering if I'd be signing up for a long difficult commute if I buy a place in Holden. Google maps says that it's under an hour, but this is true?

Pre covid it'd be an hour and half easily.

Google maps will give you an estimate based on date. Playing around with workdays, their commuting estimate from Holden to Belmont is 1hr to 2hr. The suggested route involves driving to Rt. 2 and taking that, which suggests to me that traffic will be a big factor.

You will be dealing with traffic for a big part of the trip.

There's some traffic getting out of Holden just to I-190 and onto I-290, though not terrible. It would really be the I495 and the Pike that would be the worst. So, if you commute during high traffic times easily an hour and a half. If you do it during less busy times, maybe not so much.

With Belmont, Rt. 2 might be an option, so the towns just north of Holden might be an option, too.

Holden is well out there for daily commuting to Belmont. I'd look in closer - around 495, like Marlborough, Hudson, Maynard - there are still some quiet areas and parks around those towns too, but they will make the drive more manageable.

I'd hug route 2.. Littleton or Groton would be more reasonable. Could look at Shirley too.
