Never been to the Cape, Martha's Vineyard, or Nantucket and I'm lost! I'm trying to find Summer of '42 -- you know something kind of private, oceanfront for my husband and me. Oh, condos aren't out of the question either as I don't believe the Summer of '42 exists really. We don't need really fancy, but would like to be somewhere near a quaint shopping area/village/town. We enjoy golf, fishing, the beach and can fend for ourselves without daily maid service if need be. This is for an anniversary in early Sept, but not necessarily this year as I realize we would be searching rather late. Can anyone make any suggestions?

Someone else will know more specifically but I'd say in general, some place out around Truro or Welfleet. Maybe E. Orleans or Eastham. Cottages you have to rent by the week though and usually well in advance.

On MV I've only stayed in Inns -- they may have summer of 42 cottages but I don't know.

Nantucket -- I want to go there, have never even been.

Oh, and for oceanside -- there are some places right on Nauset Beach in E Orleans. Nauset Beachside is one, but it was a bit rundown last time I was there, several years ago. I didn't mind -- looking out of the window of the kitchenette and seeing the ocean, our own path down to the beach, salt air, etc. They have apartments with fireplaces and separate cottages too, if the place is still there.

There is a motel or something that is right ON the beach in front of the place I'm talking about -- never stayed there. I hope someone else has been there more recently and can add more. Maybe there are better places too but this is what comes to my mind. It's in a romantic area. Another place nearby was called the Ships Knees but it isn't on the beach. Good luck.
