Hi All,

My husband and I are looking to rent in Quincy in the next few months, which areas off of the T are nice areas to live in? We would like to be able to walk to the T. We have seen quite a few options around Quincy Center and was wondering how things where around that area? Is that a nice area to live near? Thanks!

I like Quincy, personally. Wollaston (Wollaston Station is one of the stops on the Red Line), and the Quincy Center area are both nice, and you should have no worries -- even though it's a city, the Center area actually has a quaint feel to it.

It's very busy (traffic gets jammed up because the roads and lights are not spaced out in the best way in some spots) but if you're walking to the T, that wouldn't be a problem. (Even driving isn't too bad, actually; I used to drive through every day to get to Wollaston.)

In terms of crime, it is much safer than many areas in Boston. It is a city, so it is not suburb-safe, but Quincy is the second-safest small city in Massachusetts (Newton is the safest). Violent crime is rare. I would not be worried walking around Quincy Center.

Just make sure if you rent a place that it isn't right next to the station, because that would be more noisy (and places right next to stations tend to be more run down) but as long as it is close without being on top of the station, it'd be fine.
