And I don't mean on drugs, necessarily. I mean the price of gas of which I have shared with you all and now I am going to show you what $600,000 will buy you in a very upscale area in Southern California. It is a two bed. two ba. attached townhouse with a two car garage and a large patio. It is about 1200 sq. ft. steps from a lovely man made lake called Westlake, hence my town is called Westlake Village, about 20 minutes over the Santa Monica Mountains from Malibu. This is my condo, this is one of the reasons I laugh when folks from Ma. think their prices are outrageous.

Grass is always greener on the other side. I'm sure there are things in CA you'll miss after moving to MA. and things to complain about in MA.

Interesting comparisons!

As I've been travelling from the SW to the East Coast, I've made several noteworthy observations--housing closer to the Coast, petrol and food have incrementally risen! Now in Northern WVa, yesterday petrol was above 2.60--a 30cent jump from Columbia, MO.

I dunno, it looks really nice and new to me. A newer-construction 1200 sqft. condo is gonna cost you that much in many towns here too. Plus it won't look as nice, and it'll probably only come with 2 parking spots w/no garage. I guess it's all relative. Many pros and cons.

Nice to hear from you again, Smarty! Right now the grass is greener in Ca. lol! I don't hate Ca. and of course I will miss some things like good Mexican food and blue skies in our so called winter, but not much else I'm sorry to say. Since I lived in Ma. for a year I know what to expect so it's not a case of greener pastures, it's Pizza Regina!

Pizza Regina's my favorite too, but it's so expensive! I think a slice of plain cheese cost me close to $3 after tax the other day. And it's not like a Sbarro-sized slice either ... it's so small! I miss all those local pizzerias in Atlanta that sold slices for $1.25 or $1.50

Pizza Regina is the best! I miss Joe's Pizza in Northampton.

I guess in Ma. standards it's a new house. It was built in the sixties. Five years ago it sold for $300k. I had a nice house that I bought for $271k in 1996 that was built in 1990 in a track area and was under 1700 sq.ft. that now sells for $725k!

Hey Puffle,

This is just about the best time ever to buy a house in MA. The market is bottoming out. It's remarkable to see seller's accpeting $40K below asking in some cases. What area will you be working?

As far as Pizza goes....I make due until I make a trip to NY to get the real thing Pizzeria Regina is decent. And when I say decent, I mean it is okay NY style pizza. The problem up here is that so many people are used to Greek style that when they have a traditional NY style slice, they are amazed. Yes- that is what real pizza is all about.

Hope the move goes well!
