Hi Everyone! My family and I recently just moved to Shelburne Falls from Florida. I have to say that I'm falling in love with the area. It's definately different from Florida. My main question is I'm looking to meet new people in my area. I have a 3 year old daughter and she definately needs to meet some friends. I've taken her to play grounds and walking around town, but it's been hard to find children her own age. Just would love to get out for lunch or even a trip to the park.

You might check online and see if there's a newcomers or mom's group in your area. Often town websites have links to these or you can do a Google search. A lot of communities have these groups.

We wanted to move to Shelburne Falls, but it was too far to commute. Here is a family website I found, it is a great resource for moms and kids in the area:

Also check with the local library. They usually have some preschool aged parent and child reading groups and activities. Also, look into the local Y or community center. Call the preschools and see if they have any recommendations.

Most towns also have a Recreation Department. Check your town or county's website.

Perhaps your area has some classes - ie Yoga - or whatever your interest is that you could use to meet new people. How about your church? Even if you are not particularly religious it is a great place to meet people that will welcome you.

Trouble in Paradise -- I was wondering how things are going for you now in MA. Your daughter must be 6 by now and I bet she has lots of friends. Let us know how your life has been since we heard from you last.

It would be great if people came back and told us how they were doing more often.

Have you tried meetup.com? If you have pets for example, there's Meetup's for pet owners, be it for small dog owners in the North Shore*, or book clubs, board games, whatever your hobby may be, there's probably a meetup for it!

Its a great way to meet new people, network, and of course have fun while doing it.

*Shameless self promotion of my wife's meetup btw, small dog owners of the North Shore is one she belongs to, lol!

Cheers!
