Hey there!
I am planning to go on a trip to Hawaii - I have been dreaming of it for years.
I decided to go to Maui and while I was searching the net for a nice accomodation I tripped over some "nice" pictures of B52s, centipedes, scorpions...

Yes...I know "it's the tropics" and I am well prepared to see some critters but I am really really concerned of the flying roaches. We don't have something like this in Europe and I am totally scared of something that could fly into my face.

So I would like to ask how likely it is to meet flying roaches. How many will I approximately meet within two weeks?
I absolutely haven't a clue if I will meet one or at least some dozens and I just want to be "prepared"

Thanks a lot for your help

I have been here a long time and never had a flying roach fly into my face. nor have I seen a scorpion. most hotels spray to keep bugs away. stay in as nice a place as possible and I doubt you will see any more than a gecko.

The thing about roaches is that they are unpredictable, and it has nothing to do with the "class" or cleanliness of the surroundings. Could be none, could be some. Most likely it will be none.

But no worry. They won't hurt you. Just think of them as hard butterflies, OK?

I once experienced hopping spiders on Molokai. They freaked me out! Also, last year I stayed at a lovely older home in Hana Maui, which in fact had a few roaches, which I didnt like, but I will take them any day over those Molokai hopping spiders . But, normally the only critters you will see are those cute little gheckos that churp at night .

You might see a big roach here and there, especially when it's hot. But you rather see them then centipedes or scorpions
