I wouldn't expect you to. Most of the racism that does surface seems to involve three factors - youth, testosterone, and alcohol.
That's why the two hotspots that come to mind when I think of reports of overt racism in the islands are: outside rowdy bars, and on remote beaches that "locals" consider their turf.
Beaches are public property- they belong to the citizens of the great state of Hawaii, not some fat, drunk, and stupid thugs that still live with their mothers.
i find that hard to accept i dont mean the hostility, that part you are spot on.
i mean the concept that bek they dont like you its racism. you are an invading army they are the natives.
you dont belong there, they do.
Anyhow, a lot of racism comes from people coming here and trying to change things to suit their personal retirement needs, bringing mainland disrespectful attitude and actions...
Can you give some examples of this? Just curious what you see as particularly bad.

What makes you think the Filipinos, Portuguese, Japanese, Tongans, and Samoans are native to Hawaii?

Be sure to tell them that. Those are the magic words that will stop them from beating the dog snot out of you. Guaranteed to make your vacation much better.

Sure
A quote from King Kamehameha IV, Alexander Liholiho:
“To be kind and generous to the foreigner is no new thing in the history of our race. It is an inheritance transmitted to us from our forefathers. I cannot fail to heed the example of my ancestors. I therefore say to the foreigner that he is welcome to our shores—welcome as long as he comes with the laudable motive of promoting his own interests and at the same time respecting the rights of his neighbors. But if he comes here with no more exalted motive than that of building up his own interests at the expense of the native—to seek our confidence only to betray it—with no higher ambition than that of overthrowing our government and introducing anarchy, confusion, and bloodshed, then—then I repeat, he is most unwelcome!”
Or in modern terms, instead of natives its locals or others. lie, steal etc(special interests political) (next post
Instead of overthrow of a government, try overthrew of a lifestyle. Instead of introducing anarchy, confusion, and bloodshed. Competition, Poverty, Lack of peace and contentment.

The ones from back east in particular disrespect the land and the old ones who've been here since before Capt Cook and his gang of carpetbaggers arrived on these shores. The biggest offenders want to make it like it was back home. They ruined the landscape where they lived "back home". This land belongs to the Hawai'ians not you and certainly not me.
