My company is relocating my family and I from Boston to Maui in October of this year. We are an African American Family,( myself, wife and 16month old daughter) and am excited and looking forward to the move. We are also looking forward to experiencing and participating in all the culture the island has to offer. I will be working at one of the resort properties in Lahaina and was looking to live within a 30 minute commute. My wife is an elementary school teacher specializing in Math and technology (are there any opportunities there?) and would hope to continue in her career. The time I was on Maui was wonderful but I know the difference between "visiting" and "living" there. I met an African American woman who had lived on the Island for 8 years and was moving to Atlanta. She told me that living in Maui was a "cleansing experience" which is just what i'm looking for. Is there any other comments or advice that can enligthen me as we begin our journey?

I'ld look for a place to rent in Kahana or Napili, you'ld be out of Lahaina, but close. Don't even consider Wailuku, every time the Pali closes down, which is becoming more and more frequent, traffic comes to a standstill for hours.
