It really depends on experience and skills - most make between $50-$80K

Then maybe you should be recruiting state and county workers from here in Hawaii. $32k or $50k... that's an easy choice. They don't even get raises or promotions here, since there's a hiring and pay freeze.

Good luck, Wink! At least in Houston you'll still have access to the ocean, and you won't have to endure frigid winters.

Thanks for all the info Wink. I read your posts over the past couple of years while stuck in my cubicle in Los Angeles.

I just got back from a week in Houston and Austin - both are very nice towns. If you get a chance, go swimming in Lake Austin. It's really peaceful there.

I'm a little bit sadder now that you're leaving, because my dream of moving to Maui seems a little further away. Good luck, and I hope you can make it back someday.

Downtown Houston is terrible! The commute takes 1 hr 15 minutes minimum. I'm going to try the Park & Ride system tomorrow. Maui has taught me that I definitely prefer a rural lifestyle. I'd love to be able to work and live in rural Texas. Check out these pictures I took over the weekend

Oh dear. I'm suspecting you will soon have island fever in reverse and be longing to get back on the rock.

Lovely pictures of the hay fields and wide open spaces.
