Where can I buy 100% Kona Bean Coffee on Maui? I did not find it at Foodland, Walmart, Safeway or Longs last visit.

You might have a difficult time finding 100% Kona. A lot of Kona is now being blended with cheaper beans and still labeled Kona.

The Costco in Kona, Big Island, is rumored to sell Kona beans. That does mean that other locations sell it, but you could go into Costco and look. I don't have any other suggestions.

Due to declining crop quality, declining crop yields, coffee borer beetles, drought, and other factors, actual Kona coffee has become hard to find. Your best bet is to shop for it online.

If you want the best cup of coffee, my advice is to look for Ka'u, which has been beating Kona in international competitions for several years.

You can get it at Maui Coffee Roasters in Kahului (online: 100% Kona Coffee | Hawaiian Coffee | Maui Coffee Roasters | 100% Kona Coffee) or in Lahaina at Maui Grown Coffee (online: Results for KONA).

Both have extensive inventories of other Hawai'i-grown varieties, roasts, and blends. The Lahaina store does tastings and will ship up to 5 lbs. via Priority Mail to one address for an additional $12, I think.

Best of luck.

I usually get Royal Kona brand from Longs as they have it the cheapest at $9.99 on sale but normally around $13-17/7oz, they have a 10% and a 100%. There's a couple others that are sometimes down to 7.99/7oz. You can usually find it at ABC stores, Whalers, Safeway, Longs etc. If you are looking for Peaberry beans then try ABC stores and whalers in the resort/tourist areas. I know the Wailea Store carries Peaberry, and the ABC stores in Kihei at Safeway and across kamaole sometimes do.

Is it blended and just marked as such on the package even with the 100% label? I'd like to know as my wife is an avid coffee drinker that prefers Peaberry but if its not labeled right I'd rather buy it elsewhere. Where can I find out?

Default Costco...

Costco in Kahului usually has it in abundance for about $20.00 for a nice large bag.

Safeway and others just lost a court case last week, for falsely labeling coffee as Kona Blend that had as little as 3% Kona Coffee in it.

Most of what you see in supermarkets says KONA in big bold letters, and a tiny "10%" over it. Those are the honest ones.

It's been a number of years ago but we enjoyed "The Coffee Store's" 100% Kona. Not cheap though....

Priced about the same as in stores. That peaberry price is super low though.

Exclamation Kona vs Ka'u coffee

"If you want the best cup of coffee, my advice is to look for Ka'u, which has been beating Kona in international competitions for several years."

Correction: No Kona coffees competed in the competitions Ka'u coffees had deservedly won. Ka'u coffee and Kona coffee taste very similar, and nobody gains anything from comparing these two bordering districts' coffees. Ka'u coffee needs to make themselves aware within the coffee community while Kona coffee has a 200 year head start.
