Hello, I'm an 18 year old Hispanic male that lives in Arizona. I've recently been thinking about moving to Maui. Mainly to work in the tourist industry, and take in a new culture. I've been thinking about moving their because i don't have any family here, I'm alone. And working with people from all over just sounds really appealing. And i don't really like Arizona because of all the discrimination against Hispanics. Just, the only problems i'd face are finding a place to sleep in the long run. I have been homeless before but i had my dog to keep me company. I pulled through, i have a place of my own but I'm not happy. I'm alone and a lot of people here are self centered or just don't talk to you. Those are the perks of being a minority.. I just want opinions from people who live their. I'm tired of being alone. I want to be surrounded in a new culture, be around people, and most importantly, work. The only cons that i see are finding a home and a job that allows me to be surrounded by people and that I'd love to do. Other than that, I'm pretty set on leaving to Maui within a few months.. I cant stand being here any longer. But please, all opinions and feed back will be great. Have a great evening!

Get an education where you can pay in-state tuition. Otherwise you'll be locked into low-wage jobs your entire life.

I also recommend you make use of you time being a young person by investing in yourself. You could move to Hawaii and work at several minimum wage jobs, working 80 hours or more per week. Saving nothing for retirement, having no heath care, renting a room at best, or sharing a place with many people. You could delay that dream. For example, you could go to school for computer science, getting even only a two year degree. Then get an low pay starter IT job making about 20K to 40K. After several year and a couple jobs, you could be up to about 80K or more in less than 10 years. Contrast this with constantly working at many part time jobs, working all the time, doing a job you constantly hate. Probably working for people you hate. Weekends, holidays, you'll be working them too. Probably not even getting time and a half either. Second or third shift, you'll probably be working those too. It's a lousy life. I've been there decades ago. It's not what a young person should be doing. If you have the wisdom to delay your dream, you can change your life completely. If you go for your dream now, it will probably turn into a nightmare.

This seems like you are being sarcastic, but if you feel you have experienced negative "perks" because you are in a minority group, with Arizona being 30% Hispanic (per the 2010 census), wouldn't you feel even more so in Hawaii, with only 9% Hispanic?
