I suspect I am branded for life, with the one win.

It's real money. Got a check and it cashed just fine. There is another good contest running right now. Hit th "enter the contest" button and join. I didn't get any spam or anything at all for entering, just some nice money, which incidentily is going towards the huge expense of getting my dogs to Hawaii.

I don't know if Maui Beach still has theirs but it was pretty affordable. If not there's always the dollar menu at Micky D's.

Well yeah, except the OP specifically asked about buffets for $15 or less.

I did the Old Lahaina Laua in November when I was here and it was completely amazing and some of the best food and entertainment I have ever experienced. I am just on the $15 or less budget and not the $100 or less budget. LOL

Old Lahaina Luau is part of a family of restaurants, which includes Aloha Mixed Plate (next door), Leoda's Pie Shop, Feast at LeLe Luau, and Star Noodle which is located adjacent to a huge prep kitchen which makes the food for all of them.
I mentioned two of these in earlier posts, but not Star Noodle. It is very popular, but I don't understand why. It was my least-favorite meal on two islands.
Three of my friends from home are still in Maui. They ate at Kimo's after we left, and gave it a thumbs up, along with the Cool Cat Café. Some other good relatively cheap eats: Honokowai Okazua (try Ono in Lemon Caper sauce). A couple of doors down, is a fish market. They make great fresh fish tacos at $4.99. They also make delicious lobster chowder.
Finally, in the Times Market shopping center on Lower Honoapilani Rd. in Honokowai, is Paradiso's Pizza. They make a kick-ass Gyro, as well as other Mediterranean food and it's not terribly expensive.
When I get caught up, I will review all of the places we ate, on Trip Advisor. ( I'm Futuremauian there as well.)
By next year, I plan to live on Maui too. Keep us posted about your adventures! It's great reading for us wannabes!
BTW: I would like to substitute teach occasionally, when I get there. (I need to earn 7 S.S. quarters.) Once your school year starts, I would be interested in hearing about the need for Subs. You are welcome to P.M. me, (if you don't mind). Thanks!

There is an overflow of need for subs on this island, and likely most of the islands. From my understanding, all of the teaching positions are never filled and always openings year-round. So, even to start off the year, there will be subs working. At orientation yesterday, the advised us that we may have subs teaching in those vacant positions. I am unsure of the pay for subs, but from my understanding, there are definitely opportunities to sub year-round.

As far as rice, I will check out Costco, perhaps today, and see what they have available. I am guessing the only rice to probably avoid is white rice since there is minimal nutrition in that? Perhaps Costco will also have a rice cooker as well, and I will avoid the types with hinges to make for easier cleaning.

That sounds good to me. I need the hours more than the pay.

You probably know that along with Costco, there is a Walmart and Kmart. If you aren't in a hurry, Target will be opening in 2015.

It feels strange living somewhere that does not have any Targets. I have a Costco membership but I should not assume Costco is always cheaper than Walmart or Kmart.

You might want to get used to that 'strange' feeling, cause you haven't even begun to scratch the surface of the upper crust yet.

From what I understand, there were lots of Targets on Oahu back in 1941.

Too soon?
