Thinking about moving to Maui and wondering, if like Oahu, there are certain areas that even locals avoid.

Avoid due to safety concerns?
Avoid due to overpricing?
Avoid due to being overcrowded and too commercial?
Avoid due to no parking or dangerous beaches or ???

Help us to help you.

LOL!!! JJ and Viper, you both gave me a good laugh to start the morning.
To the OP, I think if you avoid neighborhoods where yards are littered with junked cars, accumulated debris, and big guys drinking beer on the driveways, you will be OK. (North Kehei, parts of Lahaina & Kuhului come to mind).
Maui doesn't seem to have as much of this as the other islands. JMHO!

Lot of gorgeous women here wearing, well, not much. Can be distracting to some drivers. Not me of course. Accidents can ensue. Very dangerous.

Driving past Ho'okipa on a windy day with a good north swell can be terrifying. It is so visible from the road and everyone is gawking at the windsurfing as they drive past. I am surprised there are not more head-on collisions there. Also very dangerous.

Well, I wouldn't go in the ocean or hiking alone, anywhere. You can have an accident and can't get help, or encounter someone violent or on drugs to do you in. It's happened to people though it's rare.

I also wouldn't go prowling about at night. You just never know who comes out during that time to do what. Tourists think Maui is so safe but they haven't been outside of the resorts. Other than that, just live your life and enjoy. Anything can happen when you do anything.
